Vaziri, Alipasha
Alipasha Vaziri is the Associate Director of the Kavli Neuronal Systems Institute, and a Professor at The Rockefeller University where he studies how large-scale dynamics of neuronal networks are related to brain functions and behavior. To do so, his lab develops and applies new optical neurotechnologies through which the lab has consistently pushed the limits on speed and scale – up to the level of whole brains – at which neuronal circuits can be functionally recorded across different model systems.
He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Vienna and completed postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Standards and Technology as well as the University of Maryland. He subsequently worked a research scientist at HHMI Janelia Research Campus. He received his PhD in quantum optics from the University of Vienna and completed his postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the University of Maryland. He subsequently worked a research scientist at HHMI Janelia Research Campus and led an led an independent research group at the Research Institute for Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna before joining the Rockefeller University in 2015.
